The Federal Court of Accounts (TCU-SAI Brazil), in its capacity as Chair of the Special Technical Commission for the Environment (COMTEMA) of the OLACEFS, with the support of the German Cooperation, implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, invites you to the opening ceremony of the Workshop for the Consolidation of Findings of the Coordinated Audit on Protected Areas, which will take place virtually on Monday, October 19 at 14:00h in Brazil (GMT-3h).

The workshop will be opened by Minister José Mucio Monteiro, President of the #TCU and the #COMTEMA. Likewise, there will be speeches by Mr. Paulo Roberto Wiechers Martins, Secretary General of External Control (SEGECEX) of the #TCU; Mr. Fábio Henrique Granja Barros, General Director of Instituto Serzedello Corrêa (ISC) of the #TCU; Mr. Jens Brüggemann, Director at GIZ Brazil for the Biodiversity, Forests and Climate Program, on behalf of the German Cooperation (and on behalf of the regional Project Strengthening External Control in the Environmental Area); Ms. Denise Hamú Marcos de la Penha, Representative of the United Nations Environment Program (#UNEP) in Brazil, and Mr. Claudio Maretti, Vice President of the World Commission on Protected Areas (WCPA) of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (#IUCN).
This workshop will be held from October 19 to 30, under a virtual and innovative modality, and will have the purpose of discussing, consolidating and validating the findings of the Coordinated Audit on Protected Areas, which will allow alignment on the integration of the regional report, exchanges to enrich the national reports, and to provide the guidelines for the dissemination of the results of the audit work, as well as to exchange the experiences derived from the execution of the audit from the perspective of each participating SAI.
The new edition of this initiative is based on the successful Coordinated Audit on Protected Areas carried out in 2014, and aims to evaluate the implementation and management of protected areas, through the INDIMAPA methodology, as well as its contribution to the conservation of biodiversity within the framework of the Aichi Goals and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The relevance of this theme is such that this Coordinated Audit has one of the largest number of participating SAIs in the history of the OLACEFS, with a total of 18 SAIs, consisting of 15 Latin American national SAIs (Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru and the Dominican Republic), 2 European national SAIs (Spain and de Portugal) and a sub-national Audit Institution (Province of Buenos Aires).
