The Superior Audit Office of the Federation (ASF) of Mexico was elected to chair the Working Group on Disaster Management Auditing within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals (GTFD). The election was announced in a virtual meeting held on Monday, July 1, 2019, which included the participation the OLACEFS Presidency and SAI members of said technical body, Argentina, Bolivia, Belize, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Peru and the Dominican Republic, in addition to the associate SAI members of Buenos Aires (Argentina), Ceará and Tocantins (Brazil).

The GTFD emerged as a proposal from the Office of the Comptroller General of the Republic of Peru and approval of the Regional Organization’s Board of Directors, which seeks to promote cooperation among SAIs for the development of standards and good practices in disaster auditing. It also aims to develop a guide for disaster auditing and create an online service for the exchange and dissemination of good practices in this area as part of the content of the Regional Organization’s website, which contributes to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda.

On behalf of Mr. David Colmenares Páramo, Senior Auditor of the Federation of Mexico, Lic. Mariana Calderón, International Liaison Director of the ASF, thanked the SAIs for their confidence and indicated that the natural disaster issue is relevant for the entire region.

The ASF proposed specific actions focused on the promotion of the exchange of experiences on recovery after a disaster, among which the following are highlighted: 1) the exchange of experiences on recovery after a disaster and lessons learned that incorporate the perspective of reconstructing in an effective and efficient way as a prevention mechanism; 2) the creation of common information systems and the exchange of good practices for the cooperation and development of auditing skills; 3) the creation of an evaluation mechanism that allows measuring the processes and results of auditing, and 4) the adoption of systems that include the use of technologies to map, study, analyze and anticipate (as far as possible) the events of disaster.
